Healthy Eating

Eating healthy is important to help keep your body strong and fit. A healthy diet can help protect you from:

  • Bone loss
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Some cancers like colorectal cancer
  • Type 2 diabetes

Healthy Eating Tips

It is important to give your body the right vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to help you stay healthy. A healthy diet includes:

  • Beans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Fruits
  • Lean meats
  • Low-fat milk products
  • Nuts
  • Poultry
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Try to stay away from:
  • Added sugars
  • Saturated fats (cheese, fatty meats, whole milk, butter)
  • Sodium (salt)
  • Trans fats (cakes, cookies, fried food)
  • Food Diary

A great way to keep track of what you eat is with a food diary. Each day, write down when you eat, what you eat, how much you eat, where you eat, and how you’re feeling when you eat. This will help you recognize patterns (eating when stressed, sad, nervous, etc.) and address those issues. Here is a food tracking journal that you can print out and fill in each week.  There are many outlets to find healthy recipes to spice up your meal plans.  Learn More.
