Premier Community Health Focuses on Keeping Senior Adults Healthy
DAYTON, OHIO, February 5, 2010 – As area residents continue to age, the need to have regular health screenings becomes even greater. To help senior adults take control of their health, Premier Community Health, on behalf of Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Upper Valley Medical Center and Atrium Medical Center, is looking for organizations to host free senior adult health screenings in a nine-county area.
These senior-focused screenings include total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), blood sugar, blood pressure, a take-home colorectal screening test, height and weight measurements and, for anyone with diabetes, a hemoglobin A1c screening. No appointments are needed and no fasting is required.
If you, or your organization, are interested in scheduling a senior health screening in your community, contact Lea Wilcox at (937) 227-9418.
In addition to these senior-specific health screenings, Premier Community Health also offers a medication safety booklet that can help senior adults who use more than two medicines. The free booklet is a guide to better understanding medicines, tips to stay safe and worksheets to record personal health information.
Free copies of the booklet are available at senior centers throughout Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby counties and at Premier Health Partners’ affiliates. If you would like copies of this booklet, call (937) 227-9400 or 1-877-274-4543.
PCH received a three-year grant from the Area Agency on Aging (AAA), PSA 2 to provide the health screenings as well as medication safety education for senior adults to help individuals take control of their health. Health screenings can find conditions or diseases in their early stages, when they are more easily treated, and reduce the impact of illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes.
