Premier Community Health Wins The Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award
DAYTON, OHIO, May 11, 2010 – Premier Community Health won the Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award during a luncheon at the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday, May 11.
“This is an enormous honor for our organization,” said Pamela Reichel, executive director of Premier Community Health. “Our outstanding staff and community partnerships are why our programs are successful. This would not have been possible without them.”
The award recognizes Premier Community Health’s My Sister’s Keeper program. African American women die more from breast cancer than any other group. My Sister’s Keeper educates African American women about breast health and mammography through community-based parties. In 2009, it served nearly 1,000 women. If a woman attends a party and does not have health insurance or she cannot afford her co-pay, the program provided those services free.
Hundreds of nonprofit organizations applied for the award and three finalists were chosen in each of six categories. Premier Community Health won for the Southern Ohio Region/ Larger Budget category (for non-profits with a budget of $1 million or more.) The other finalists for this category included the Easter Seals Work Resource Center and the Partners for Community Living.
Premier Community Health, on behalf of Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center and Upper Valley Medical Center, works to build a healthier community through prevention, early detection and disease self-management focusing on cancer, diabetes, heart and lung health.
